Learning to Breathe Underwater
Fox & Coyote - Part Two
There is a man, Coyote, who moves through my life like a riddle I haven’t finished solving. A mirror I didn’t know I was ready to look into. Ahh, he is my muse.
“It’s taken me a lifetime to learn to breathe underwater” he sang. And that sentence lived inside me until I turned it into this poem…
If you’ve been here a while, you know the story started months ago. The Fox and The Coyote. The desire. The distance. The devotion. The myth-making. The strange way two people can become a landscape inside each other without ever fully stepping into the same room.
I couldn’t not write this…
…this is the second chapter of us.
Another descent.
Another initiation.
Another “I didn’t mean to love you like this, but here we are.”
The poem is below - read it slowly. Read it like you’re entering water.
